In 2014, Capital City Public Market piloted a project in partnership with St. Luke’s Health System and their Healthy University to bring fresh food from the farm to the downtown Boise campus. The intent was to make it convenient for employees and the surrounding public to have access to a local farmer and healthy nutritious food during the week.
The pilot project was started in collaboration with Global Gardens and one of their participants in the farm entrepreneurship program, Safiya Abdi, with Safari Farms.
In 2015, the market and St. Luke’s expanded to two other locations in the Treasure Valley – including more farmers in the program.
The Pop Up Produce stands also serve as a CSA pick up for the participating farms. What is a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It’s like a subscription to the farm. CSA members pay one price for the whole season and receive produce each week from late May to mid-October comprised of produce available each week from the farm.
